Downhill National Series Rd 3 - Thredbo - Feb 2014 [1st Place]

Race report written by Tim Butler...

"Last round of the National Series see us heading to Thredbo. Perfect weather greeted us on Friday for the first day of practice. They did a fair bit of work to the Cannonball track to shorten it up.  Pat was going into this round equal first on points with James Findlay, but was running the No 2 plate which took the pressure off him, and he seemed a lot more relaxed.

Great to see Maggsie (David Maggs), particularly after dislocating his shoulder at the Buller round two weeks before. He and Pat did a few runs together to find lines. Pat is so lucky to have a team mate of such calibre. They were really happy with the track and said it was so smooth, but maybe it had to do with the bike they were riding.

Saturday was practice then seeding.  On Pat’s first practice run he broke a pedal, hoping that was the last problem for the weekend.  He and Maggsie did a few more runs together to finalise their lines for seeding.   Pat did his seeding run, but wasn't happy with his back tyre which was very loose, came in 7 seconds behind James. Maggsie qualified in the top ten, which is a great result coming back from injury.

Sunday practice then race run.  Pat crashes on his first practice run putting a nice puncture wound above his knee and took skin off the left side of his body, but after a lie down with the medics, a bottle of Fanta and a road ride to get rid of the chemicals out of the body, he went up to practice again. With the support of David he got a couple more runs in before his race run.

Pat jumped in the gate for his race run very relaxed but sore.  He left the gate and that was all I saw of his run. Sebastien Deubel was the first to text me on Pat’s result which is pretty amazing considering he was at home in the Blue Mountains 600km away - must have been glued to the online results. Pat left his best run for the weekend till last and James came down in 0.14 seconds behind Pat, giving Pat the round and series win!  Maggsie had a great run also coming in at 10th against a quality field.

Great weekend, both bikes performed brilliantly. Tracks were great and can't wait for the Rockytrail’s events in April there.

Pat and I would like to thank the support of SCV Imports, Liquid Planet, Kali Helmets and the massive support from Peter and David Maggs at races, Gisella and Sebastien for the awesome bike that Pat absolutely loves and has never had a complaint about."
